The Andover Junior Football League was founded in 1960. The purpose of the League is to conduct a season of football play for youngsters in the 9 to 14 year old age bracket under conditions, which will foster the spirit of competition and enhance the physical and moral training of the youngsters.

Each Team Coach nominates players for these awards.

Augustine J. "Gus" Connolly was one of the founders and original coaches in the League. He died in October of 1962. The League has established a permanent award in his memory, which will be awarded annually to the Junior League Player who, by dedication to the game and his team, exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship, attitude, and effort, which the League is dedicated to achieving.

The Walter "Stretch" Pearson award is in honor of Walter "Stretch" Pearson, who for many years, served as an officer and director of the League. This award is presented to the players, who by dedication, attitude, and effort, are judged the outstanding linesman of the year.

The Phil Markey Memorial Award is in honor of Phil Markey. Phil served many years as an officer and director of the League. The award is presented to the players for their spirit and love of the game.

A memorial award has been set up in honor of Garret "Garry" Burke. This award will be presented to a person who has given much time and dedication to the Andover Junior Football League. Garry was one of the original founders of the League and was the first coach of the Shawsheen Patriots. He died in July 1980.
